We are constantly striving to improve and be the best we can be. We have commissioned Aquinas School Attendance Provisions to support our management of attendance and they will address issues with families where attendance is a cause for concern. In line with government expectations, our minimum expected attendance rate for every pupil is 96%.
Where pupils are frequently late to or absent from school, whole classes can be affected as well as their individual academic and social progress. We want to assure you that we are making every effort to ensure that your child’s learning is not unduly disrupted by the frequent absence or lateness of other pupils.
To help parents decide whether they should allow their child a day off school when poorly, the NHS has produced guidance on common illnesses. This guidance is available via the NHS website (Is my child too ill for school? – NHS (www.nhs.uk)) and underpins our decision on whether the reason provided for absence is to be authorised.
The NHS message is quite clear:

• It is ok to allow a child or young person to go to school with some common or minor illnesses.
  Common colds, minor coughs, sore throats or headaches alone do not mean children are too unwell to attend school.
• In line with the NHS and Department for Education expectations, only absences that are unavoidable will be authorised at Braiswick Primary School.

Please find below a chart of attendance percentages and the hours of learning lost. Your child’s attendance figures will be contained in their annual report which they will receive in July. We would like to remind families that we are unable to authorise holidays during term times. Parents should also note that late arrival may also be included in the attendance figures, depending on the time of arrival, as learning time is lost.
