The philosophy of Forest Schools is to encourage and inspire individuals, of all ages, through positive outdoor learning and experiences. This is done by participating in engaging, motivating and achievable tasks and activities in a woodland setting.
Forest Schools is an exciting opportunity for children to experience the natural world and learn in a natural setting. The children visit our onsite woodland on a regular basis and through active engagement, have the opportunity to learn about the natural environment, how to handle risks and most importantly to use their own initiative to solve problems and cooperate with other.
Each session is designed specifically to meet the needs of the group. Our Forest School sessions take place throughout the year with each year group participating for half a term, across different seasons throughout their time in the school. We go out in all weathers apart from high winds or thunderstorms. Children use tools such as saws, drills, loppers and secateurs as well as learning about fire and fire safety.
Children have the opportunity to build dens, create natural art, learn about trees, birds, insects, sustainability and climate change as well as engaging in free child initiated play developing physical, social and communication skills as well as confidence and self- esteem.
