The Trust’s experience of developing others and providing support

Lyons Hall is a behaviour hub, is home to the Professional Learning Network which delivers a suite of National Professional Qualifications ranging from Early Years to Executive Headship and is highly experienced in providing development for individuals or groups of staff and support for whole school development issues. It runs the Improving Teacher Programme and the Outstanding Teacher Programme with staff from all academies in the Trust facilitating and sharing practice, as well as the Reading and Spelling Programmes which Essex Local Authority used as the flagship professional development for schools across the county during their Year of Reading.

Through the school’s licence for delivering the NPQ qualifications it has formed wider networks and grown further school-to-school support. Lyons Hall has been commissioned by Essex to develop and design a wide range of training programmes over the years. There is a strong culture in the Trust of sharing best practice and the recognition that each academy will have its own strengths, needs and identity. For example, when all academies in the Trust have parallel training needs, the staff of all academies are brought together to learn as one community. However, where training needs are distinct, the academies have followed their own tailor made development strands, utilising the skills of the staff in the partner academy.

Is about being emotionally present for people. It’s a powerful message of respect that improves communication and strengthens relationships – make eye contact and show respect when others are talking.

Taps into your natural way of being creative, enthusiastic and having fun. Play is the spirit that drives the curious mind, as in ‘Let’s play with that idea!’ It’s a mindset you can bring to everything you do – having fun, enjoying what you are doing.

Make Their Day

Is finding simple ways to serve or delight people in a meaningful, memorable way. It’s about contributing to someone else’s life, not because you want something out of it, but because that’s the person you want to be – you have the power to make someone else’s day.

Choose Your Attitude

Means taking responsibility for how you respond to what life throws at you. Once you are aware that your choice impacts everyone around you, you can ask yourself, ‘Is my attitude helping my peers or my fellow pupils? Is it helping me to be the person I want to be?’ – You have the ability to choose a positive outlook.
